I.R. Mackintosh, Letter to Blodwen Davies, Nov. 15, 1930

La Salette
15 Nov. 1930

Dear Mr. Davies:

I have deferred answering your letter of 15th Oct., as I desired to give the matter some serious thought in an effort to impart something which might be of service to you.

I am disappointed with the result, and at the outset I should tell you, that at the time I knew Tom Thomson I was about ten years of age and Tom was eight years my senior; I was more a companion of his younger brother, Fraser.

He was a great swimmer and it was usual to go to the village in the evening and swim in the waters of Georgian Bay; the water was particularly inviting and crystal-clear; Tom frequently would go in alone long after dark and swim out what seemed to me at the time, a great distance.
