Armstead Buckner: Witness for the Prosecution

Armstead Buckner, a Black, was born in 1829 in Virginia, and was among the first 29 settlers to apply for land on Salt Spring in 1859. When he died in 1888 he was a poor man with debts of over $400, and an estate worth only $125, with most of that, aside from a few tools, being in his land. Buckner's testimony supports Tshuanahusset's guilt.
