English

Wife: We’d often go see him in St. Alphonse. We were young. We were about twelve, maybe, twelve, thirteen years old. And we’d go to Gramma’s place, where they had a big farm. And when we’d go there, Mum’d make cookies or something, and she’d tell us, “Take these for Jerome.” And we’d go there and both his legs were cut off. And when you’d go in—I can still see him—he’d come out of his room and go to the stove. And he’d scratch his head, like this [imitates Jerome]. We went to see him many times.
