Ottawa, 30th September, 1920.

Sir,-

In confirmation of my telegram of yesterday's date, I am commanded to inform you that His Excellency the Governor General has had under his consideration the case of Marie Anne Houde or Gagnon, who was tried before the Honourable Mr. Justice Pelletier at the Assizes held in the City of Quebec during the month of April 1920 for the crime of murder and having been convicted thereof was sentenced to death - such sentence to be carried into execution on Friday, the first day of October, 1920, and to state that His Excellency has been pleased to order that the sentence of death passed on the said Marie Anne Houde or Gagnon be commuted to imprisonment for life in the Penitentiary at St. Vincent de Paul, P.Q.

In pursuance of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1906, Chapter 147, Section 49, you are hereby required and directed to convey the said convict to the penitentiary above mentioned. The Warden of that institution will be so informed by today's mail.

Kindly acknowledge the receipt of this communication immediately after the same has reached you.
