Franklin Expedition Telescope Draw Tube (Before 1845)

Franklin Expedition Telescope Draw Tube

Created by: Unknown
Archive: National Maritime Museum
Reference number: Object ID no. AAA2227.1
Date: Before 1845
Notes: These two parts of a telescope are relics of Sir John Franklin's last expedition in search of the North-West Passage, 1845-48. The brass barrel, which is severely crushed, has some remaining pieces of cord and leather at the eyepiece end. There would have been a draw tube, but this is now missing.
