Miscellaneous Documents

Besides the more typically utilized documents such as letters, court documents, etc., historians also use many other documents that are not as easily classified. On this site, for instance, you will find miscellaneous documents such as petitions, documents related to land transactions, and charts. The petitions in this case were sent to local and federal government agencies, which explain why the petitions might have been kept and preserved. The land deeds and mortgages were found in a variety of archival collections such as the Donnelly Family Papers at the University of Western Ontario Archives. The charts found in the Context section are based on primary data from various census years. Natalie O’Toole, statistics specialist, compiled the data and produced a snapshot of a variety of geographic, demographic and economic features of the region.
