James Keefe followed by defenant came immediately up to me, & struk me with a stone on the head, cutting my hatband & hat through and raised a mark on my head — at same time he seized me by the beard. The blow stunned me. I might have fallen from it but from the hold he had on me. I struggled with Keefe and would have got not of him but for the Defendant who struck me with a Stone and also with a chair and and as well as his brother. The Prisoner was assisting Keefe, who I thought was trying to take my life. I had three wounds in my head from stone.,my head was severely cut the scars of which I had then, two of my teeth were knocked right out with a stone, and and there [illegible] to that It came out afterward from a Blow of Stone on my shoulder was severely injured and my right arm disable & it remains disabled so that I have not the proper use of it now. He pulled out part of my beard. I heard the Donnelly call out, "Give it to him" several times during the attack. Prisoner James Donnelly was one of the foremost amongst those assisting Keefe.
