Thompson, Mary

When Mary Carroll married William Thompson in 1874 the Donnelly boys held a shivaree for her and her new husband at which some of Thompson’s property was intentionally ruined. In 1879 when one of her cows went missing, she claimed she heard the animal on the Donnelly property. The Vigilance Committee, including her husband, performed a search, but the animal was found at home. At the trial Mary testified that James Carroll slept at her home the night of the Donnelly murders. She claimed he never left the house, so he could not have taken part in the murders.
