Thompson, William Sr.

A neighbour of the Donnelly family, William Thompson was the father of Margaret Thompson, a young woman who was in love with Will Donnelly. William Thompson did not approve of the love affair and kept his daughter away from Will Donnelly. However, on January 9, 1874 Will Donnelly searched the home of William Thompson in the hopes of taking Margaret away by force. William Thompson attempted to escape to the home of neighbour Ellen Fogarty, but the crowd fired upon him with a gun. He was not harmed.
