Abandonment and relinquishing of the ruins of a house consumed by fire, 2 May 1734.

Appearing before the undersigned king’s notaries of the Juridiction royalle of Montreal, therein residing, were present Sieur Louïs Le Roux La Chaussée former Bourgeois of This city And Catherine Boivin His spouse and previously spouse of the late Jean Lorin of This city, both Stating and Declaring that In the Fire of the tenth of April, their House located In this city on Rue St. Joseph Was Consumed by fire with merely the walls Remaining, And As they Are very Advanced in years And Infirmed and in No State to Undertake the refurbishing of the Said house, And Wish to Ensure that they have a House for Their Remaining years, They have Sought the most Convenient Means of doing so, And have found no better solution than to Relinquish the said structure with the said walls located on the Said Rue St Joseph to some solvent individual;

For this reason they have brought Together Sieur pierre puibarau Surgeon in This city And marie Lorain his spouse And Sieur Joseph Lorain child of the said Late Lorain and of the Said Boivin, and to achieve this intent and willthey have proposed to them to determine and Conclude among Themselves who will take Charge of rebuilding the said house at his Expense according to the following Clauses and Conditions And Provisos, That Whosoever Accepts the Said Conditions Will be Required to rebuild the said house as Stipulated above, to pay the Convent Sisters of This city thirty livres nine sols in taxes towards the Capital of six Hundred nine Livres, Owed for the Said Property to the Said Sisters, and the Said Sieur La Chaussé and Boivin his spouse are to Remain in the said House the Remainder of their Lives free of rent, and will Otherwise have the Leisure of renting the Said house to Whomsoever it may please them. It is Understood that the Acceptor will neither Sell nor Rent the said property and house until following the Deaths of the said Sieur La Chaussée and his spouse, who Promise to pay the said Convent Sisters the said Tax of thirty livres nine sols for the Duration of their Lives, And following Their deaths the Said Property and House will Be and Belong to the said Acceptor [...]
