François Foucher

Upon his arrival in Québec in 1722, François Foucher first works as secretary to the intendant. Active in business, he reluctantly accepts the title of King's prosecutor in Montréal. His responsibilities are numerous: he files civil suits against violators of the many regulations that dictate the life of the inhabitants of Montréal and acts in the name of the king in criminal cases. Foucher has no formal legal training and is often accused of being too harsh in his proceedings.
