The Prisons

The prisons of Montréal were reconstructed between 1717 and 1721. Located on rue Notre-Dame, they were in fact houses that were reinforced in order to foil escape. The prisons essentially served to sequester the accused during their trial, since imprisonment for a crime was a rare occurrence.
