Confrontation done By Us Pierre Raimbault King's Counsellor Lieutenant General, Civil et Criminel at the Seat of the Jurisdiction Royale of Montreal at the Request of the King's prosecutor, Plaintiff And accuser Against Marie Joseph Negress Slave of the said dame widow francheville, prisoner In the gaol of This city; of the witnesses heard at The Information done by Us on the fourteenth of April last And This, In the Execution of Our ordinance of the eight of the said month […]

The Chambers of the Gaol.

Had brought before Us by the Gaol Keeper the said accused with whom we Confronted Marguerite de Couagne third witness

This done we proceeded with a Reading to the said accused

of the deposition And re-examination of the said witness And having heard it the said accused said that she has no contention with What the Said deposition Contains; that She did go Outside the door And that the Said thibault did speak to her on two or three occasions prior to the Fire, But that It was not on The day of the Fire nor on the Eve. And that she did not say that Her mistress would not Sleep in Her house. And the said witness said that It is the panis of Sieur de Berey who told her that the Said accused had said to her that neither Her mistress, nor Her Master, would Sleep in Her house.

That she Agrees that she did not see the Said accused with the said thibault The day of the Fire, nor the Eve, But previously, such as one morning while the said dame francheville Was at mass, and one time while the Said dame Had gone to Supper at the House of Sieur Moniere And this on two or three occasions, One in which, he took some Shirts belonging to him that Were at the House of the Said dame francheville, And This on the Day After the said thibault was Released from the Gaol. And the said accused said that This Is truthful. [...]A Reading done to them of the Present Re-examination, Each persisted on their own behalf; the Said Accused Declared to not know how to Sign, as requested.
