Eric Brown, Letter to Blodwen Davies, Sept. 11, 1931

THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA
OTTAWA

September 11, 1931.

Dear Blodwen Davies:

I have been thinking a good deal over the Thomson matter since I saw you and I have come to think that, if anything is ever to be done, it should be done as soon as possible. I have therefore written to Banting confidentially to ascertain what he thinks on the subject and no doubt if you discuss things with him in the near future, he will show you the letter. A personal and authoritative approach to the Attorney General and afterwards perhaps to the C.M.P. might get something going without publicity. Needless to say, I will do anything I can, as I believe the importance to Canadian art of clearing up the whole situation is extreme and with the extremely valuable facts on hand that you have gathered, I believe that the proper authorities would consider that grounds existed for re-opening the case.

I should be glad to hear and treat entirely confidentially any decision you may come to after further discussion of the matter with Dr. Banting.

With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Eric Brown
Director.
