U.S. PROBER PASSES OPPORTUNITY TO DENY PEARSON ON HIS LIST

Washington, April 6 — Robert Morris, counsel of the Senate Internal Security Sub-committee, yesterday declined an opportunity to say he has no intention of investigating Hon. Lester Pearson for alleged Communist activities.

Morris was asked directly by a reporter representing a chain of Canadian newspapers “when” alleged charges against Pearson would be brought up in the sub-committee’s hearing.

“I can’t say. I can’t answer that,” Morris replied.

The reporter said later Morris did not appear surprised at the question and did not object to his phrasing, which implied that it was in fact Morris’ intention to bring Pearson’s name into the hearing.

Not Asked “Whether”

The reporter did not ask “whether” Pearson would be investigated, but “when.”

The Canadian foreign minister was linked at a closed session of the same sub-committee in 1951, with the allegations of communism against Dr. E. H. Norman, Canadian ambassador to Egypt who committed suicide in Cairo this week.
