Dr. Henry Peters

Dr. Henry (Harry) Peters was a resident of Gagetown, New Brunswick in the 1860s. He was a reputable surgeon who was hired by the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Chipman to amputate the Frozen Man’s legs above the knees in March 1861. He provided professional care and medications to this supposed Italian for approximately three months, while the latter was housed by John Hutchinson. Peters’s house still stands in the village of Gagetown, though the surgical wing was torn down in the late 19th century.
