John Meechi

Originally from one of the Italian states, John Meechi settled in Canada sometime in the 1850s. He lived and owned a store in Meteghan. He is reported to have been educated and intelligent. It is believed he could speak several languages. He visited Jerome many times over the years and is reported to have acquired the certainty that Jerome was also from the Italian peninsula. His store was only a few houses from Jean Nicolas’s house and still stands today. Besides operating a general store, Meechi was also a barber and a well-known figure in the community at the time.
