NO PARDON REQUESTED FOR THE GAGNON WOMAN

QUEBEC CITY, 8. — Yesterday, the Honourable Justice L. P. Pelletier presided the session of the Court of Criminal Assizes in order to allow Maître Francoeur to make a request to appeal the ruling in the case of Marie-Anne Houde, wife of Télesphore Gagnon, who was sentenced to death after having been found guilty of the murder of her stepdaughter Aurore.

Maître Francoeur, K. C., the defence attorney for the Gagnon woman, declared he had no request to make.

Therefore, the Gagnon woman will not be re-tried, nor will her case be appealed.

She has been sentenced to be hanged on next October 1st.

Following this statement, the Honourable Justice Pelletier declared the Court of Criminal Assizes to be adjourned until the next term.
