Ryder, Patrick (Grouchy)

“Grouchy” Ryder, a supporter of the Conservative party, was accused of killing Richard Brimmacombe in 1857. A member of the Vigilance Committee, Ryder had his barn burned down in January of 1880. He blamed the Donnellys for the crime. The Vigilance Committee allegedly met at his farm the night of the murders. He was accused of being part of the mob (as were his sons and brothers) and though he was arrested for the murders, he was released.
