[ George Foreman Residence (Concession 13, Lot 28), Biddulph Township, 1878, Drawing from H.R. Page & Co., Illustrated Historical Atlas of the County of Middlesex, Ont., 1878, Unknown, University of Western Ontario Archives ]Originally, Canada Company surveyor John McDonald named the area Marystown after his wife. However, the area soon became known as “Lucan”, although there is debate over where the name Lucan originated. In 1872, with a population of approximately 1000, the area was incorporated as the village of Lucan. In 1999 the Township of Biddulph merged with Lucan to form the Township of Lucan Biddulph. Today, just over 4,000 people live in the Township of Lucan Biddulph, located twenty-five kilometers north of the town of London, Ontario.
