re Donnelly case

[...] I have employed a constable to guard young O'Connor, fearing mischief. His evidence is so essential, & it would be easy for the friends of the prisoners to get him out of the way, unless carefully watched. He & his mother are lodging in a house adjoining the police station. Of course we have to pay expenses. [...]
