Information of Witnesses, Inquest on Bodies of Catherine Garburth and Sarah Harcourt, 1861

Province of Canada United Counties of Huron and Bruce To Wit.

An inquisition taken for our Sovereign lady the Queen at the township of McGillivary in the county of Huron one of the United Counties of Huron and Bruce the twenty ninth day of May 1861 [...] That William Mahon late of the township of McGillivary labourer not having the fear of God before his eyes but being moved by the instigation of the devil on Tuesday the twenty eighth day of May 1861 with force and armes at the township of McGillivary, in and upon the said Sarah Harcourt in the peace of God and of our Sovereign lady the Queen, then and there being feloniously wilfully and of his malice afore thought, did make an assault, and that the said William Mahon, with a certain Oakroot of the value of one penny which the said William Mahon then and there had and held in both his hands, her the said Sarah Harcourt in and upon the head of her the said Sarah Harcourt then and there diverse times feloniously willfully and of his malice afore thought did strike and beat then and there giving onto her the said Sarah Harcourt in and upon the face and upon the part of the head of her the said Sarah Harcourt, with a certain Oakroot aforesaid 3 mortal fractures beating the whale face in as also the frontal bone of which said mortal fractures she the said Sarah Harcourt then and there instantly died.
