Marie-Louise Poirier dit Lafleur

Marie-Louise or Marie-Louise-Hélène, 28 years of age. She is representative of the hardships brought on by premature widowhood among the working classes. Following the death of her husband, Jean Vignault, she left her three children with her parents, who are farmers residing on île Perrot, to take up work as a domestic in the city. Employed at the house of Thérèse de Couagne, she was at odds with Angélique and ended up being employed in the service of the merchant François Mailhot. Her testimony focuses mainly on Angélique’s character and opinion of the French.
