Marie dite Manon

Little is known of this panis slave. She was born around 1719, and was purchased by Jeanne Nafrechoux and François Bérey des Essars, the king’s treasurer. Baptized with the name Marie, she is also known as Manon. She begins the rumour that has Angélique declaring that her mistress would not sleep in her house on April 10th, the night of the fire.

Sold to the notary Chaumont, a counsellor for Raimbault during the trial, Marie is arrested in 1750 for theft. She risks being sentenced to death, but is released for lack of proof.
