Nicolas Marchand

A sexagenarian, Nicolas Marchand is the warder of the gaol, or gaol-keeper. This former master tailor and bailiff must therefore hold Angélique prisoner during her trial. His predecessor was incapable of preventing the escape of three prisoners. Marchand is the father-in-law of the bailiff Jean-Baptiste Decoste.
