Marguerite César dit Lagardelette

Originally from Boucherville, to the south of Montréal, Marguerite César has not led an average life. Single at 53 years of age, she has had an illegitimate child. After years of working and managing a small business, she was able to build herself a stone house neighbouring those of the merchant bourgeoisie. She knows well the workings of the court system, having appeared there as a witness, plaintiff and informant.

She lost everything on April 10, 1734, and in the following weeks, she is seen walking up and down the streets screaming and blaspheming against one and all. Although convinced of the wicked character and guilt of Angélique, she is not able to substantiate her testimony with solid proof.
