Gaspard-Joseph Chaussegros de Léry

Born in France, the engineer Chaussegros de Léry came to Canada in order to draw the plans for the fortification walls to be erected around the city of Québec. Later, the authorities ask him to oversee the construction of the fortifications in Montréal and of numerous inland forts such as Niagara and Chambly. He is also called upon to apply his expertise in important engineering and architectural projects for the construction of a number of major buildings.
