Alexis Lemoine Monière

A leading merchant in Montréal, Monière is the father of little Amable, a key witness at the trial. He is also the brother-in-law of Thérèse de Couagne, the owner of the slave, and the uncle of little Marguerite de Couagne, another witness. Angélique, the accused, had from time to time lived at his home, along with Claude Thibault, but she feared his violent temperament. He is the only merchant in Montréal at the beginning of the 18th century whose business accounts have been preserved.
