The Parish

The term “parish” designates at once a territory under the direction of a curate, a parish institution (fabrique), and the parish church. The parish of Montréal was called Notre-Dame. The church was located directly in line with rue Notre-Dame, in front of the current Notre-Dame Basilica. The curate or parish priest was always a priest from the Seminary of Saint-Sulpice.
